The FDA just approved yet another new, late stage melanoma therapy, nivolumab. That makes a record, mind blowing seven new FDA approved drugs since 2011.
In addition to nivolumab, other FDA-approved treatments for melanoma include ipilimumab (Yervoy, approved in 2011), peginterferon alfa-2b (2011), vemurafenib (Zelboraf, Genentech; 2011), dabrafenib (Tafinlar, GlaxoSmithKline; 2013), trametinib (Mekinist, GlaxoSmithKline; 2013), and pembrolizumab (2014).

I have been touting multiple myeloma research as the most successful assault on cancer ever. But while there are a dozen or more new myeloma drugs in the pipeline, there have only been seven new FDA approved myeloma therapies in the past ten years.
Melanoma/myeloma. By any measure, they’re the champs! Still no cure…
